It’s been almost 8 months since I’ve updated my submission stats, mostly because I’ve been waiting for some good news to share. I spent most of the second half of 2017 writing longer short fiction (a bit of an oxymoron), and hit a bit of a learning curve. The result: a lot of encouraging personal rejections and a dry spell that lasted almost six months. Thankfully, I racked up two sales at the end of December and started 2018 off with a piece in F&SF, which was incredibly exciting! Looking forward to a year full of rejections and frustration, because without those, the acceptances wouldn’t be nearly as exciting.

After two full years of this, and a handful of pieces published, I feel that I’m gaining quite a bit more confidence, and finally feeling genuinely unfazed by the inevitable rejections. Especially excited about the jump in personals recently, and hoping that’s a sign of maturing style, but only time will tell!
Just read your story in Daily SF. It was lovely, which doesn’t sound like much, but is high praise indeed. It was touching. I look forward to reading more from an intelligent, exciting young writer. Thank you.
